Meet Melissa Chai, a Hodson Truth & Integrity Scholar
Hodson P.I. is proud to recognize Melissa Chai as the inaugural recipient of the Hodson Truth & Integrity Scholarship.
Melissa graduated in the top 2% of her class and will attend Harvard University to study Comparative Literature on a pre-law track. Her dedication to advocacy, service, and creating opportunities for others reflects the values at the heart of this scholarship.
Passion & Purpose
Melissa has pursued her interest in law with purpose, using each experience to deepen her understanding and help others do the same. From mentoring youth attorneys to co-founding Women in Law, she has helped make legal education and career exploration more accessible to her peers.
Integrity & Character
Melissa has demonstrated integrity by following through on her responsibilities, representing others thoughtfully, and using her influence to create opportunities beyond herself. She has earned the trust of her peers and community by listening carefully, making considered decisions, and remaining accountable to the people she serves.
Leadership & Accountability
For Melissa, leadership is an opportunity to ensure others are heard. As the first student member of the Temecula Valley Unified School District Board of Education, she represented more than 27,000 students and brought their perspectives directly to district leaders. Her work demonstrates the courage to speak up and the responsibility to represent others with care.
Service & Impact
Melissa’s service begins with recognizing where people need greater support, connection, or representation. She has expanded access to volunteer opportunities, celebrated culture, elevated young artists, and supported children in foster care. In each effort, she has turned an idea into meaningful action for her community.
The Path Ahead
At Harvard, Melissa plans to build on her interests in advocacy, public policy, and service as she prepares for a future in law. We are confident she will continue leading with the same integrity, compassion, and sense of purpose that have already shaped her journey.
